Animal Wheelchair Fittings

As a previous owner of a dog with disabilities, I know only too well of the emotional upheaval and worry that comes with this territory. Animals may need/use wheelchairs for multiple reasons including, but not limited to: hind limb paralysis, post operative rehab, general limb weakness, amputees and confidence building. If your Veterinary Surgeon has discussed the possibility of a wheelchair for your pet or you are interested in purchasing one but don't know where to start, please use the form at the bottom of this page.

This service is FREE although mileage charges may apply.

Canine Hydrotherapy

Kat offers a variety of swimming types (e.g. fun & fitness, weight loss management, orthopaedic and neurological) on a Thursday evening 5pm-8pm at South Coast Hydrotherapy Centre in Three Legged Cross.

South Coast Hydrotherapy

(formally known as Springbok Hydrotherapy)
Verwood Road
Three Legged Cross

BH21 6RR

The center is within the grounds of Springbok Vets and there is lots of parking located outside.

Hydrotherapy takes place in a heated pool (29 degrees) and is beneficial for many reasons. It’s a non weight baring environment which is perfect for reducing pain and inflammation, increasing blood circulation, increasing your dogs range of movement, it encourages weight loss, increases stamina and fitness, provides excellent mental stimulation, allows reactive dogs to exercise in a stress free environment, builds muscle, increases the production of synovial joint fluid (which we all need to keep everything moving beautifully in our joints!) and it’s fun!

In order for your dog(s) to swim, a referral form must be signed by your vet. This form must be filled out by your vet prior to any swim taking place as it’s a legal requirement. The referral forms are mandatory regardless on if your swim is for fun/fitness/learn to swim or for orthopaedic/neurological conditions. New forms are required every 6 months. The hydrotherapy center will organise this for you. In order to get the ball rolling, I will require your full name, address, phone number, pets name, breed, age and the details of your registered vet. This information will then be forwarded onto the hydrotherapy center who will liase with your vets on your behalf. By emailing your details, you consent to this protocol.

An initial assessment will need to be booked in first if your dog has an orthopaedic or neurological issue. This is a 45 minute appointment costing £60 and consists of a health check, muscle measurements, pool introduction, swim, shower and drying.

This is not required for a fun/fitness swim.

After your initial assessment (if required), each session thereafter is a 30 minute slot costing £35 for fun/fitness and £45 for orthopaedic/neurological conditions (such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, arthritis and patella luxation).

If 3 x sessions are booked in one block, £5 will be deducted from session 3!

If your dog is insured, check your policy as most cover a certain amount of hydrotherapy sessions!

All your dogs swim information gets logged onto the hydrotherapy center's clinical database so everything is above board and is a legal requirement on my part as a hydrotherapist. Also, if your vet requires any information regarding your dog’s swims, it’s there to hand!

You pay your fee at the center on the day of your appointment, no deposit is required

To ensure no cross over between patients, please wait in your car until I grab you!

It is recommended that you do not walk your dogs on hydrotherapy days as their muscles work a lot harder in the water!

Do not feed your dog prior to their swim or immediately after to prevent sickness & bloat.

Please ensure they have been to the toilet prior to entering the facilities. Any poops in the pool result in a £50 surcharge (Lucy once pooped at the top of the ramp on the way in to the pool and it just missed the water-phew!)

You are of course allowed into the pool area to watch your dogs swim, to give encouragement and to take pictures. Be warned though….it’s a splash zone!

Bring your own towels and shampoo if there’s a certain brand you wish your dog to have.

The center has a wide variety of toys and usually has boxes of gravy bones. If there’s a particular toy or treats you wish your dog to have then please bring these.
